INDUSTRY

The film industry is a vital part of the UK economy and the Academy will help make sure British films and foreign films in production in this country have access to set-ready craft and technical crew with world-class skills.

The Skillset Craft and Technical Skills Academy is working closely with industry to develop training that is relevant and most effective at responding to current skills needs. The Academy Management Board, which has strong links with the industry, is a fundamental part of this process [link to Academy Board page]. In addition the Academy works with filmmakers, guilds, funding and strategy bodies, manufacturers and service providers, to identify industry skills gaps in the craft and technical departments and to develop and deliver top quality training in partnership with the Academy.

It is of particular importance the SIF paying productions and producers are able to access the trainees they need. SIF paying film productions/producers can access some of the best, work-ready trainees to join their crew at subsidised rates through the Film Craft and Technical Trainee Placement Scheme. The Academy funds the development of National Occupational Standards and qualifications, which provide benchmarks for quality when recruiting film crew, which will improve outcomes and will help reassure investors.
