Rules

  • 1.0 Game Characteristics
    • 1.1 All Bristol & District League Matches shall be played to Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) Rules (www.volleyball.org/rules). However the following exceptions to the rules set out in this document apply.
    • 1.2 All Bristol & District Tournament Matches shall be played to the Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) Rules & to the direction of the Individual Tournament Director. Specifically it may be nessacary to shorten or have timed matches.
  • 2.0 Playing Format
    • 2.1 All Matches are best of three sets. Ie the first team to win two sets wins the match. 2-0 or 2-1 is match winning score’s.
    • 2.2 To win a set if it is the first or second set played, it shall be the first team to achieve 25 points with a minimum margin of 2 clear points. However, in the case of a 24-24 tie play shall continue until one of the teams achieves a two point margin. This is capped at 28 points. Ie 28-27 is a win.
    • 2.3 If a third set is required to win this it shall be the first team to achieve 15 points with a minimum margin of 2 clear points. However, in the case of a 14-14 tie play shall continue until one of the teams achieves a two point margin. This is capped at 18 points. Ie 18-17 is a win.
  • 3.0 Regular Interruptions
    • 3.1 Regular game interruptions are Time-outs & Player substitutions.
    • 3.2 Under B&D Rules each team is allowed ONE time-out and six substitutions per set.
  • 4.0 Eligibility
    • 4.1 In all Bristol and District matches each team shall have a minimum of two wild cards on court during play.
    • 4.2 The definition of a wild card is A) a Woman. B) A Man over the age of 50 (on the date of the game). C) A junior player which is someone under the age of 17. (On the date of the game).
    • 4.3 A person who fits two of these categories, as an example a woman over 50 cannot be counted as two wild cards.
    • 4.4 If a team elects to play with a Libero and the player fits the criteria set out in 3.2 he or she cannot be counted as one of the wildcards because their involvement in play is intermittent.
